Students were provided with sections of the newspaper called, Newsday.

Once they found their article this was what came next:

Part I: Choose an article

Part II: Read the article

Part III: Choose a main person from the article mentioned or interviewed, write a diary/journal entry from the 1st person perspective of that person.  Be sure to describe the day discussed in the article using facts and realistically possible ideas and explanations from your imagination.

Travel Brochure

All 6th grade students will be working on a project from Tuesday on, it will be due by June 14th for all classes, no later than that will be accepted.  Students will earn a group grade, individual grade and a process paper grade.  Each student is responsible for their own process paper describing what each group member did each day/time the group met.  Only ONE travel brochure will be submitted for each group, presentations for the brochure will be during the week of  June 20th. Each group will create a PowerPoint presentation  to share their brochure and demonstrate a 2 day itinerary people could follow if they visited their country.

It has been a great year, we are almost ready for summer time!

The following file is a list of websites that can be used as guides for determining why people visit your country, the culture, places to visit, historical sites, the food and the language etc.  Remember to include all necessary parts of the brochure and keep a list of all of your resources (books and websites) that you use to get your information.  Do not write word for word in your brochure, make sure you put it in your own words!

Compare/Contrast essay

You have now been provided with 2 readings about Japanese Feudalism and Medieval European Feudalism.  You are to use your knowledge of social studies and planning chart to write a well developed essay comparing and contrasting the 2 types of feudalism.

Historical context: In the 1100s, Japanese society was in need of a system that would organize the people and create a sense of loyalty and obligation.  Similarly, during the Middle Ages (500-1500) in Europe, after many attacks by invaders, the kings sought out a way to recover and protect the people.  Even though miles apart, Japan and Europe set up a system of feudalism, a hierarchical system to provide status and order in a chaotic time.
